Description

MoldLay filament is a wax material for 3D printing intended for creating casting moulds for castings using the lost wax method. MoldLay is another 3D printing filament created by Kai Parthy, the creator of such filaments as LayWood, Lay Brick and Reflect-o-Lay.

The printing process of MoldLay filament is similar to PLA filament (printing temperature is 170-180 ° C). The difference compared to standard 3D printing filaments appears after heating the printed form to a temperature of 270°C. At this temperature, MoldLay turns into a very low-viscosity fluid, which allows for trouble-free removal of the mould. An ordinary oven can reach this temperature, so there is no need to upgrade existing equipment. Other plastics would melt as well at this temperature, but their higher viscosity would prevent them from removing the mould cleanly, and if the oven is heated even further, ordinary plastics may be completely burned off, but noxious fumes will be produced in the process.
MoldLay filament is resistant to warping. This makes MoldLay an ideal material for making durable moulds. Having thin or complex geometries in the mould often leads to warping and distortion during cooling. MoldLay filament's warping resistance combined with its stiffness makes this material perfect for this task.

Advantages of MoldLay:
-almost no warp,
-low viscosity at high temperatures,
-very good dimensional stability,
-solid and keeps its shape,
-no heated bed necessary,
-low processing temperature (170 - 185°C),
-liquefies at ~270°C (emptying the cast).
